German and English words are usually pretty similar. Maus~mouse, Milch~milk, Wasser~water, sechs~six, Vater~father. But the German word for horse, "Pferd", is nothing like English. What happened? A thread. /1

Fascinating and enjoyable read. Recommended. https://t.co/DUUsQgjpkU

Being kind and polite won’t make every thing right. But it’s a good place to start.

Very highly recommended, with two points (amongst many) standing out: 1. Location as power - fascinating thoughts for addressing D&I. 2. The actual drivers behind the purpose of meetings. https://t.co/i0hbOQ9jEv

Very good summary of the 'cons' that balance against the 'pros' of remote working. The tips are thoughtful and helpful, too. Forbes: Here’s Why Leaders Don’t Want To Support Remote Working. https://t.co/Klrhpkr8bO via @GoogleNews

I have shared more about our reasoning and the benefits I see for Quora, our employees, and society more broadly in this blog post: https://t.co/h62dnJvrUs (2/2)

Really interesting. Especially the thought that if you offer digital services optimised for user experiences that (by definition) *must* support remote access, then it's nonsense to force employees to be in an office, because it prevents them fully experiencing the challenges. https://t.co/bdzMu0Asuw

Quoted @adamdangelo

We are going fully remote first at Quora. Most of our employees have opted not to return to the office post-covid, I will not work out of the office, our leadership teams will not be located in the office, and all policies will orient around remote work. (1/2)

Fascinating and detailed discussion of remote working. Recommended. https://t.co/uHUrpEAmHJ

"Email is where information goes to die" NO. Email is a vital portion of asynchronous communication. Stop demanding that everyone answer IMs in real time. 70% of the questions you have honestly don't have to be answered in real time.

Very true. IM fans/users often forget that: - Being 'present' within an IM tool is *not* the same as giving them unlimited permission to interrupt at any time. - Computers can multitask, but I can only type a reply into *one* channel at a time. - They are *never* 'owed' a reply. https://t.co/QIis7B0qqk

If your job had a loading screen, what kind of tips would be written on it?

It's easy to get lost in the day to day and get discouraged by the slow rate of change. Don't forget to step back and look at what your team has accomplished over the past 12 months to gain a completely different perspective.

Bournemouth beach this evening. Just the two cruise ships at the time; a third arrived shortly after this.

This photo was taken a couple of miles east of the main B'mth beach - the one that was *completely packed* today. 🤨

Stay safe, everyone. https://t.co/QKWgtr8iwc

Bournemouth Beach Today:

Let’s not forget the pandemic is far from over.
Rules may be relaxing but restrictions remain in place for a reason.
If they are ignored and the R value rises then tougher lockdown rules will return. Let’s stay alert to the dangers of COVID-19. https://t.co/hZakDIh21D
