You always hear CEOs need big bonuses to keep them motivated, but never that employees do.
When I slashed my CEO pay and doubled our min wage, I stayed motivated because I'm still well-off and care about my work. Employee motivation soared because they didn't fear going broke.
When Gov. Greg Abbott announced a statewide mask mandate, I was on a reporting trip to Houston.
On that Thursday, July 2nd, there were 7,434 new #COVID19 cases in #Texas, and 44 deaths.
Yesterday, there were 8,140 cases and 129 deaths.
For over 10 days now, around half the residents of Jackson, Mississippi have not had running water.
And nobody is talking about it on a national scale.
I am begging the national media to please pay attention. There is a crisis happening in Jackson.
The Senate Parliamentarian's current salary is $171,315 per year.
That's $82.36 an HOUR for a 40/hr week.
Maybe if the Parlimentarian made $7.25/hr or $15,080.00/year they'd support a living wage.
Hey--remember when Hillary Clinton won the 2016 popular vote by 3M, but everyone told her to get off the stage and go knit?
Donald Trump lost the election by 7M, but the GOP has built the entire #CPAC2021 conference around him.
Just heard a call w/ a woman caged on unaffordable bail in Harris County, TX last year: "I'm pregnant, you know, I need a little bit more than two slices of bread. I'm trying to get my weight back up. Give my baby some normal food." We cage pregnant women. And don't feed them.
NEWS: Several Republicans in the House have skipped Friday's votes and enlisted their colleagues to vote on their behalf, signing letters saying they couldn't attend "due to the ongoing public health emergency."
But those members are scheduled to be at CPAC
Imagine trying to explain to the American people, who delivered Democrats unified control of government, that we didn’t deliver a living wage because an unelected parliamentarian advised us not to.
We assassinate people by drone strike and have a literal prison colony in Guantanamo but where we draw the line is ignoring the Senate Parliamentarian when he says no to a minimum wage hike
THINGS THE SENATE IS ALLOWED TO DO BY MAJORITY VOTE
1. Pass multi-trillion dollar tax cuts for corporations
2. Confirm right-wing justices to the Supreme Court
THINGS THAT REQUIRE A SUPER MAJORITY IN THE SENATE
1. A $15 minimum wage
2. Protecting voting rights
Reminder: as the Senate's presiding officer, Vice President Kamala Harris can overrule the Senate Parliamentarian and keep the $15 minimum wage in the COVID relief bill.
For the sake of millions of struggling American workers, she must.
@JuddLegum Is that the reason? There is nothing "incidental" about the impact on the budget of requiring a $15 minimum wage, such as reducing dependence on food stamps and increasing tax revenues.
@BetoORourke@WordswithSteph "For 20 years, TX customers have paid $28 billion more for electricity than state residents who are served by traditional utilities (per WSJ analysis)."
Deregulation transferred wealth from hard working Texans to rich energy trading firms!

Half of employees who make under $15 an hour get food stamps, Medicaid and welfare. This costs taxpayers $107 billion a year.
So instead of paying a few cents more for a hamburger, you're paying billions more to subsidize corporations paying literal poverty wages.
When I graduated college in 1968, the typical corporate CEO got 20 times the pay of the average worker.
When I became labor secretary in 1993, the ratio was 61-to-1.
Today, the ratio is 320-to-1.
Capitalism is off the rails.
Please ask yourself: when was the last time you saw next-generation, world class technology for education, healthcare, housing, etc consistently prioritized for underserved communities like this?
Taxes paid by poorest 90% combined: $550 billion a year
Taxes the rich owe but just don't pay: $574 billion a year
Yearly budget
IRS enforcement: $5 billion
Police: $115 billion
These are our priorities
