We need a 2nd vaccine dose b/c the first dose "primes" the immune system. The 2nd dose confers additional protection. FDA says 2 mRNA vaccines confer 95% efficacy. But that assumes 2 doses. https://t.co/vmYOEjiwkI
The UK & others are extending the interval between doses so they can more quickly protect the pop. While 1 dose confers a lot of protection, clinical trials were designed w/ 2 doses as set intervals. We should stick to the science. If we deviate from science too far, we add risk https://t.co/2Zn349Majr
A9. #AskReuters What gives me hope is the power of science and human ingenuity. Up until now we were no match for the coronavirus. But we now have vaccines in record time. We hope this will bring a healthy new year to the US and ALL OF HUMANITY. That's what gives me hope now.
A6. Herd immunity is achieved when a large part of the pop has been vaccinated or had COVID. It'll take time even in the US. It won't happen until late 2021 or even 2022. If we can vaccinate say 70% of US pop we can achieve herd immunity. Let's end pandemic this year #AskReuters
A9. The #PeoplesVaccine campaign gives me hope. People around the world are coming together to ask their governments to act responsibly and in all of our interests by making vaccine technology open to all. #AskReuters @Winnie_Byanyima https://t.co/n8jcu55UoA https://t.co/GcBXEclpvt https://t.co/YvLZ4t3cFx
