Y'all, I have made progress! My dad now takes the idea of defunding the police seriously and repeated some of my points when I wasn't even present when his idiot brother pissed him off. Slowly but surely, us white allies *can* educate our more ignorant social circle members.

@Marconi333 Yeah. Me either : / anyways, here's a printer friendly version https://t.co/PRRuxUeMPN

I have no clue if I actually have ADHD or not, but I STRONGLY related to a lot of the things talked about in this thread ngl 😅 This whole post was written so well! Check it out if ya have a minute, I found it all so fascinating 👀 https://t.co/v9FR5V05uX

Breonna Taylor’s name is no longer trending and the police that murdered her are still free. If you see this please reply/quote/tweet on your own. ARREST BRETT HANKISON, JONATHAN MATTINGLY & MYLES COSGROVE FOR THE MURDER OF #BREONNATAYLOR

🙋‍♂️Raise your hand if you think the news of 5 black men found hanging in trees in 1 week should be getting much bigger headlines.

some of y’all need to realize just bc someone is a good cousin, friend, brother, sister or whatever to YOU doesn’t mean they also haven’t sexually assaulted or harassed someone. this is not math. their actions are not just cancelled out bc your experience is positive.

sorry but screaming, “go vote” , at people is really tone-deaf and not only assumes that the electoral system is legitimate, but also disregards to prevalence of voter suppression and invalidates the rage/pain Black ppl are experiencing currently!

So we need to change. The first step is humanizing POC, because insulting them and ignoring the root problem makes them unfixable and unworthy of time or notice. So making POC into real life neighbors and friends... that is the first step to awakening white folks everywhere.

People really hate to admit that it isn't just hard work and talent that got them where they are today. It's also a system weighed in their favor. To those who succeed despite the odds, I applaud you but not everyone can be a success story. Some will fall into harsh statistics.

Because if we acknowledge that society as a whole is to blame and not the people individually, that means we are complicit and have privilege. We have to acknowledge when we have done wrong and when we have succeeded not only by merit...but also by luck of birth.

Our privilege allows us a fighting chance at the start lines, while they start miles back. Add to that random obstacles placed all along their track with an expectation that they will fail, and you get insults thrown their way to ignore the problem instead of fixing it.

Just noticed I said hide and not hard earlier. I am appropriately ashamed but also it's late for me. My main point is that many whites get generational wealth and social capital not available to POC and that's why we succeed and they fall behind.

How many times have you gotten a job bc a relative recommended you? How often were your parents able to give you money for that optional school field trip or easing your student loans? Did you get to live in a consistent home with no fear of eviction? All of these are a privilege

Everything is working against them. The justice system as a whole is rigged overwhelmingly against these people. Community and societal supports are little to nonexistent. Jobs are hide to come by and education is a privilege many never get.
