Yes backpack rap and slam poetry are Hamilton's DNA but it's also just an overgrown version of those one-person shows that were big in the late 90s.

Forgot that JK Simmons is a real person and not an unholy Twitter mashup of the Sports Guy and the Harry Potter lady

Hamilton makes a lot more sense when you find out that Lin Manuel-Miranda started working on it in 2009, when everybody had Obama fever.

The right's musical taste is the same negative formula as whiteness: it's just anything that's *not* under the umbrella of music associated with every other socio-cultural category.

Quoted @benschwartz_

Good, but do these guys ever question why Republicans like their music so much? I could be wrong, but I've never heard the GOP use hip hop, punk, reggae, or anything that doesn't sound like basic country or a sports bar band. No one cares about the lyrics, just the music. https://t.co/GOTSzZj58p

Republicans glom onto pop anthems by white artists influenced by historically white genres. It's unfair to fault Neil Young (or Springsteen) for making music that fits these very broad criteria. https://t.co/Xd09dxvLxZ

Not the biggest fan of my writing but I wrote this about Twitter discourse last year and still think it's right. https://t.co/ZWT9iSjE38

Everything on Twitter is embarrassing in retrospect.

Hamilton is goofy and often fun, the problem is with people who tried to make it deeper than that.

Hamilton but it’s Griselda

i haven't read white fragility but this passage somebody just showed me makes it sound like the author hasn't read anything about baseball history? https://t.co/W1oP3HeFK9

Actually Hamilton takedowns may be the only thing that’s aged well from the pre-Trump era.

Excited for everyone to re-up their scathing Hamilton takedowns from 2015.

Re Hamilton’s folly: “rapping is talking so it makes sense to have characters rap instead of talking” except rap is about using “talking” to make music, not pretending music is talking.

Even if all rap musicals are doomed to fail it says something about Lin Manuel-Miranda that he didn’t recognize this or did and tried anyway .

What if the problem with Hamilton isn’t Lin Manuel-Miranda but that rap musicals just don’t work? (Prince Among Thieves is a musical the same way Tommy is an opera)

I laugh when I get a “your personal info is on the dark web” notification. But getting a fake USPS phishing email five minutes after changing my address was fucked up!
