What has happened to the report into Priti Patel? https://t.co/wfLldZFYgI

After spending weeks saying the 'chair was a matter for the committee'......

it's a message to MPs that No 10 won't tolerate disloyalty, but adds to sense that Downing St pretty contemptuous of its own backbenches - even with a majority of (now) 79, that doesn't help any govt in the long term - apparently both the Chief Whip + No 10 wanted Lewis out

Julian Lewis has been chucked out of the Tory Parliamentary Party for working with Labour MPs to get himself elected as chair of the Intelligence Committee, beating Chris Grayling

More importantly than the shenanigans over the ISC chair, this means the committee can now start its work - and means the report into Russian attempts to interfere in UK can be published, possible now next week

A further 85 people have died with coronavirus in the UK, bringing the official death toll to 45,053, government figures show

'Julian is rather more ruthless than any of us had realised' according to a Committee wag

Just confirmed by the Cabinet Office

Source suggests Julian Lewis will be the chair instead

He had to win a vote to get the job from the other MPs in the room - sounds like it didn't go his way, and went to another Tory MP

Remember Chris Grayling was meant to be the new chair of the powerful Intelligence and Security Committee ? well sounds like it didn't quite pan out that way.....

Everyone knew it was coming but still a moment. Boris Johnson commits to an independent inquiry into covid response

#pmqs now -

#China Foreign Ministry says #UK #Huawei decision has “severely undetermined mutual trust” between #Beijing and #London + that her govt would “take measures to safeguard the legitimate interests of Chinese companies”.
