Appalling new video of the rioters is a big problem for Trump’s GOP enablers ⁦@ThePlumLineGShttps://t.co/HFXwi2xhCW

Ted Cruz perpetuated the Big Lie about the election, a lie he surely knows is false. As @ThePlumLineGS notes , a Capitol attacker can be heard on video saying "I think Cruz would want us to do this." Natural, foreseeable result of "just asking questions." https://t.co/4VM3cxG5FT

Quoted @maxberger

To stop the rise of fascism, we must break up the two-party system by changing how we elect people to Congress. https://t.co/sO9AGy0lXe

Interesting contribution to the "is Trump a fascist" debate: https://t.co/DtiDT6bAm0

If anything we've underestimated how important Trump's twitter ban is going to be. It will literally transform the next phase in the history of the GOP, and thus the whole political landscape. It's all different now. I explain here: https://t.co/5b2aGR4sRQ

Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley are playing a slimy game: They're disowning the insurrection without retracting their support for the big lie that incited it. But they have a problem: New video shows unambiguously that the lie did drive the assault. My latest: https://t.co/u98BQfXxeV

@HawleyMO @SenTedCruz You can't use Double Speak to run away. You are responsible. We won't forget. https://t.co/cnj2DJdPLl

Framing the choice as "either fascist or incompetent" is conceptually inadequate. He *actually did* great damage. This was a product of his malevolent illiberalism. His politics were in key ways peculiarly destructive. Pozen & Scheppele theorized it best: https://t.co/M6jTc8j0mj https://t.co/znPk9yOmr7

@NewYorker @propublica @JVLast Josh Hawley claims that in leading objections to Joe Biden's electors, he was merely representing his constituents.

This is steaming nonsense. In so doing, he's actually doing them a severe disservice. Here's why:

"The footage illustrates with great force just how tightly bound up that big lie — that the election was illegitimate — was in the rioters’ motivations. The enablers of this lie badly want to flush this truth down the memory hole." https://t.co/zSeUAlmGfk

@NewYorker @propublica Cruz and Hawley validated this lie for purely cynical purposes.

As @JVLast notes, Trump's hold over his voters is not easily transferred to other vessels.

Cruz/Hawley tried to solve this by surfing authoritarian currents in the GOP Trump has unleashed:

Some choice quotes from new video reported by @NewYorker and @propublica:

“I think Cruz would want us to do this."

“There’s a f---ing million of us out there. And we are listening to Trump.”

“We’re coming for you, f---ing traitor."

Are Trump and Bolsonaro complicit in genocide for their inaction on COVID? You cannot address this question if you refuse to name the concern. Here, following ⁦⁦@nickwestes⁩ , ⁦@FinchelsteinF⁩ and I argue it’s a debate we must face. https://t.co/ESTpV1W1g3

@MollyJongFast @jentaub @ThePlumLineGS "Bubbling underneath all this is the fact that there really is a serious anti-democratic movement afoot among the class of intellectuals who are trying to carve out a purportedly respectable version of Trumpist post-liberalism."

Quoted @mattyglesias

This Biden line is good. Democrats need to work on heuristics to get young, college educated staffers to recall that the electorate is much older and more working class than they are and communicate accordingly. https://t.co/aNXqSVb2P0 https://t.co/h462xz6N4U

One of the greatest editors ever, the late Jan Hodenfield, once said to me something like: "Make it so simple your 95-year-old grandmother can understand it." (cc @GlennThrush) https://t.co/43gEMOGelz
