Hey journalist, I'm going to be suggesting an @IRE_NICAR session on covering federal investigations: not covering the feds as a beat, but getting inside a specific investigation. I have some ideas for speakers, but who would you like to hear from on this?

Last tweets from @ginaligon on thoughts of being the DAC editor for past four years: coolest thing Clark McCauley did for this journal was allowing ANY citation format. Encourages interdisciplinary work and makes this journal truly unique. 1/7

I’m trying to square the circle of Director Wray testifying that agents did disruption knocks w/ folks prior to Jan 6th to convince them not to travel to DC w/ the implication throughout the testimony that there was not actionable intelligence on possible 1/6 violence. (I can’t) https://t.co/syvXuo9BaX

The FBI Norfolk situational intelligence report keeps coming up. Isn’t the more important question why there wasn’t something more at the bureau than simply a Norfolk SIR as it relates to January 6th? (not just the more general domestic extremism Intel products in the fall)

An insightful, sobering overview of how domestic violent extremist groups helped to plan, coordinate, and carry out the Capitol attack; how conspiracy theories propelled clusters of believers to participate; and how authorities thought it was just noise https://t.co/fbYOFjnlYZ https://t.co/zKWxb9kBW5

Assuming for a moment there was only a Norfolk SIR within the bureau then we’re talking more about a systematic failure of identifying, creating and pushing out analysis within the bureau. If there was more than the Norfolk SIR, then congress & public has the right to know that.

The issue is less that no one heeded a Norfolk SIR, it’s moreso that there was only a Norfolk SIR

The FBI Director is testifying at the US Senate Judiciary Committee. We’re grateful the senators noted that “the Program on Extremism at George Washington University released a helpful report” & went into the report’s findings. Link to the hearing is here https://t.co/BecmZcNjpg

In today’s congressional testimony, FBI Director Wray says they have 2,000 active domestic terrorism investigations. To put that number in context, in a March 2019 congressional testimony, the FBI put the number of domestic terrorism cases as 850.

Durbin: Watchlist travel? Wray: Indivs on whom we had previously predicated investigations, a handful of people, agents in home cities approach them, interview, dissuaded a number from traveling. Confusion abt Watchlist: True No-Fly and Selectees.

Tomorrow, FBI Director Wray testifies in front of @JudiciaryDems for the first time regarding events of January 6th. Having looked at all the 1/6 criminal cases & done past FBI after-action investigations, my humble suggestions on baseline questions the Senators should ask him https://t.co/2qHbhXxZZy
