I agree actually, let's talk more about 1776 - Widespread rioting, protests, property destruction, law-breaking, civil disobedience, vandalism, ...

I read Candace Owens' chapter on slavery and... wow, what an ahistorical disaster

CW: Video of police violence. Police canine force is a dehumanizing legacy of slavery used to construct and maintain race and disproportionately wielded against Black people and people of color. @ProfTDParry https://t.co/Z2jRP9Yssx

Today I'm discussing Chapter 4 of @jmjafrx's "Wicked Flesh" and the Introduction and Third Chapter of @DrSashaTurner's "Contested Bodies" with the brilliant students enrolled in my "West Africans and the Making of the Atlantic World" class. Looking forward to this one.

.@Kathiec14 I would suggest reading the threads and or following @historianspeaks @ProfTDParry and @ProvAtlantic 3 of my fav historians whom I learn a lot from! They are a wealth of knowledge. I'm blessed to have connected w/them 😊

3500 word essay on "Jumping the Broom," intended to build on the arguments of the book, is almost done and will be published at some point. I found this essay hard to write, since mentally I believed I had "said" all I wanted to say about it in the book. Others have this problem?

@ProfTDParry @KeishaBlain This, also written by historian Tyler Parry, matters here: “Debunking right-wing misrepresentations of slavery and its aftermath holds a long tradition in U.S. historiography, and this political moment should motivate specialists to approach such debates with renewed vigor.”
