The Oversight Board makes decisions on what content Facebook & Instagram should allow or remove, based on respect for freedom of expression & human rights.
The Oversight Board has announced its first five decisions, overturning Facebook's judgment in four cases. These decisions demonstrate our commitment to holding Facebook to account. Decisions are binding on Facebook. https://t.co/CYativBmB7
In the coming months, we will be assessing how Facebook implements these responses, both to ensure the company takes action and to learn lessons for future decisions.
Facebook’s response to our recommendations is encouraging and shows how the Board’s impact goes beyond individual pieces of content. The work of the Board will reshape Facebook’s wider approach to content moderation over the long-term.
The Board’s recommendations cover many highly significant issues, from the use of automation to Facebook's rules around dangerous individuals and organizations.

And that is exactly what these @OversightBoard opinions go for--taking the system seriously, pushing for users to know what the rules are, what they did to break them, when they're made by algorithms, & where the punishment could be more than just t"ake it down or leave it up"
