My musings about the current debate on #history education in this country for our local paper. America is not a story of exceptionalism, but a story of striving to fulfill a promise. https://t.co/jcnsgRRXqF

This hurts more than it really should, but as a #chicagobears fan, this is utterly devastating. https://t.co/ouiKds9j69

“Wanton endangerment”, the perpetual condition of Black people in the U.S.

My latest piece for @TheAmHistorian! @The_OAH (Thanks, @Prof_Suddler!)

"The long #history of solidarity practices between Black and Asian #activists in the United States exemplifies one crucial aspect of #internationalism and anti-racist organizing."

Breaking: Ruth Bader Ginsburg dies at 87. The Supreme Court justice was a legal pioneer for gender equality. https://t.co/e3gusXEHed

I'm just done. I want to wake up now. But sadly I can't. How did we all fall into this nightmare? And how do we get out with RBG gone? https://t.co/Jw7uVLSsvc

.@MichaelSteele: "I'm exhausted... the fact that we have to literally beg people to wear a mask to save their own dumb ass from getting sick? I'm sorry. To me it is beyond the imagination." Learn more: https://t.co/7kv6OWiYZZ #11thHour https://t.co/vGsftuXFGK

This is a voice of frustration I think many are feeling. I hope to one day go through the news in the morning and not feel like I'm going insane. https://t.co/rzKpelaCPx

This is utterly terrifying, yet it is almost a perfect storm of dehumanization, prisoner abuse, racism, and the delegitimization of a woman's ownership of her body. Put simply: it is not surprising as all from this administration. https://t.co/rNqI0avH9d

George Bizos (1927-2020), the great South African radical lawyer, who came to South Africa as a 13 year old refugee fleeing Nazi persecution in his native Greece and cast his lot with black South Africans, including up to representing the miners of Marikana, has passed away. https://t.co/dffZPXHvWF

I know that I'm good at what I do. I enjoy my students, my research, and my career. I also know that I am potentially witnessing the end of all this. It's terrifying. But I do find it comforting to know that I'm not alone and that there are those willing to provide advice. Fin.

I know that I'm going to apply to those 10-12 positions that may be open for this upcoming job cycle. I know that I'll be competing against potentially hundreds of candidates. I know many went to a better school, have written better books, and have better networks. But... 3/

I know this needs to be a conversation about our discipline more broadly. The jobs are gone, and most aren't coming back. Our profession as we know it has fundamentally changed. I know my career, which I've devoted most of my adulthood to achieve, may be gone forever. But... 2/

I am in a TT position that is being eliminated. I am one of those on the job market looking for work. I know it sucks. I know I was lucky to get the first job. I know lightning will unlikely strike twice. And I know taking any advice people give is a crapshoot. But... 1/

Labeling critical race theory "unamerican" really says the quiet part loud about who you think is and is not American.

The problem with colleges/universities eschewing Black Studies & focusing on anti-racism programs is that it centers whiteness. The focus seems to be on educating white people. It negates the transformative power of Black epistemologies for creating a just society. We need BOTH.

You don’t need to be black to be outraged. You need to be American and be outraged. https://t.co/jL4kW5chss

This is a perfect summary of the frustration from this line of criticism. Black people did not let out this genie, don't patronize them by saying they are responsible for putting it back in the bottle. https://t.co/J6jOpnc85p

"Because he was a caretaker, a leader, and a man of faith, dignity and pride, he shielded his collaborators from his suffering. He lived a beautiful life. And he made great art." Beautiful tribute from Coogler. https://t.co/BiXokvfOi9
